Downsizing Not Limited To Passenger Cars
In case you haven’t noticed, the trend toward downsizing isn’t limited to passenger cars. A lot of buyers choose to buy a compact SUV nowadays. Light, compact pickups have of course been marketed in all corners of the globe, and they are an ever-popular alternative to cars. Most car brands are increasingly producing smaller, more city-friendly versions of these traditionally resource-hungry vehicles, and it is not only the Asian brands producing these vehicles for budget-conscious buyers but also premium European manufacturers. Often, buyers who buy a compact SUV will see or hear the word crossover. What this means is that compact SUVs are often based on a passenger car platform rather than a truck platform, which traditional, full-sized SUVs are based on. When making a choice of the type of SUV you want, consider your actual needs. Those based on car platforms are well, more car-like, meaning better handling, higher fuel efficiency and better ride quality. With truck-based SUVs, you get a heavier platform which affects fuel economy but at the same time gives you good towing capacity, more room and a tougher vehicle.
